He has Diploma in Civil Engineering and a PhD on the provision of early warning services in sanitary landfills with the utilisation of web-based expert systems. He has been awarded on two occasions with EU Marie Currie fellowships and worked for eight years in leading German and Irish Research Institutes. His research is focused, but not limited, to the fields of: systems safety, hazard analysis, accident models and investigation techniques, early warning systems and services, systems theory and systems dynamics, proactive risk management, crisis management.
